Discovering Antica Dolceria Bonajuto

Antica Dolceria Bonajuto, founded in 1880 by Francesco Bonajuto, is an emblem of Italian pastry artistry. This family-run company was listed among the 100 Italian excellences by Eurispes in 2008, and for over 150 years, it has been producing chocolate and sweets according to the artisan tradition of Modica and Sicily, most of which have Arab or Spanish origins.

Antica Dolceria Bonajuto is still located today in the heart of the Baroque Modica, where it was founded. Over time, it has maintained a connection to the city’s history, combining the charm of ancient flavors with creative reinterpretations that characterize its unique pastry style.

In the Dolceria’s laboratory, sweets are produced and decorated daily, with a touch of imperfect perfection that only craftsmanship can offer. From wafers for cannoli to country ice cream, each creation is a symphony of fresh flavors and aromas.

Antica Dolceria Bonajuto is the oldest active chocolate factory in Sicily and one of the oldest in Italy. The Bonajuto family, rooted in the social and cultural fabric of Modica, has been producing Modica chocolate since 1880 following the ancient cold processing of cocoa, introduced in Europe by Spanish conquistadors. This centuries-old tradition, together with a continuous reinterpretation of the present, makes Antica Dolceria Bonajuto a unique pastry experience.
