Discovering Marco De Bartoli

Founded in 1978 by Marco De Bartoli, an avid agronomist and racing car driver, Cantina De Bartoli has revitalized the ancient family estate Baglio Samperi and the production of Marsala, a wine that was in decline at the time. Despite the challenges, Marco De Bartoli managed to revive his vineyards and create a new way of producing wine in Sicily, based on quality and ancient and virtuous traditions. This has led to the production of Marsala, straw wine and fortified wines that have made history in wine throughout the South and the world.

Today, Marco’s children – Josephine, Renato, and Sebastiano – continue their father’s legacy of excellence. The wines from Cantina De Bartoli achieve the highest levels of quality, and the family estate, an ancient 19th-century farmhouse, shines in all its splendor. Marco De Bartoli has become a legendary figure, and his production techniques, innovative yet rooted in tradition, have become a rule throughout the region. One of these is the introduction of the Soleras Method, introduced in Sicily by Benjamin Ingham in 1812 and restored by Marco in the 1970s.

Cantina De Bartoli’s wines are expressions of a generous and suggestive territory, with prominent vineyards such as those of Samperi, located on an alluvial basin, and Bukkuram, kissed by African sun. Although the De Bartoli name is primarily linked to Marsala and the exuberant sweet wines of Pantelleria, the winery has gained international fame for its wide and varied range of wines produced from typical local grape varieties, such as Grillo, Zibibbo, Catarratto, and Perricone. The historic and prestigious labels Vecchio Samperi, Bukkuram, Marsala Vergine, and Superiore are accompanied by new and surprising expressions that embody the best agricultural and wine tradition of Sicily.
