One of the most appreciated Sicilian red wines of Donnafugata’s winery, Angheli is made with an equal share of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, carefully kept on the clayey soil of the Contessa Entellina Estate, between 200 and 600 meters above sea level.
Fermentation takes place inside steel containers, with maceration on the skins for 11-13 days. This first stage is followed by an ageing process, where the wine is left to rest for 12 months in French oak barriques and tonneaux, and then, for another 24 months, directly in the bottle.
Once uncorked, the wine will present itself to the taster’s eyes with a beautiful ruby red color, with pleasant garnet reflections. The nose is ample and stratified, with aromas of aromatic herbs, berries, liquorice. The palate comes full-bodied, with a soft taste, good persistence. Served at 18-20 degrees in a large glass, it can be drunk immediately or after a period of rest in the cellar, even for a few years.
Finally, as far as food pairings are concerned, the wine can accompany one’s own meal in a complete way, although it can be accompanied in a more dedicated and conscious way to pasta with meat and vegetable sauce, to second courses of roast and stewed meat or, again, with seasoned or semi-seasoned cheeses. In any case, a choice of sure satisfaction to be able to celebrate a convivial meal, or that can accompany a more careful single tasting.
