Peaches in syrup – PGI, organic, slow food presidium
The peach of Leonforte PGI is a late ripening product, appreciated for its texture and sweetness. It is produced in the inland areas of Sicily between Caltanissetta and Enna. The late ripening is due to its method of cultivation: when the peach reaches the size of an almond, it is wrapped inside a bag of parchment paper. This operation delays the ripening of the fruit so that it can be eaten in September and October when other types of peaches are not available.To appreciate it all year round, it is preserved in sugar and lemon syrup. Peaches in syrup bags earned the title of Sicilian Slow Food Presidium.
