Rosso del Conte – Contea Sclafani DOC

Rosso del Conte by Tasca d’Almerita is an iconic label of Sicilian winemaking, a blend of the native grapes Nero d’Avola and Perricone from the San Lucio vineyard. This is a bottle that has changed the enological destiny of Sicily, guiding the regional production towards quality since the 1970s.

The composition of this wine is 58% Nero d’Avola and 42% Perricone, varieties grown on head-trained bush vines at about 480 meters above sea level on sandy-clay soils of brownish-yellow color, partly calcareous and with a slight presence of skeleton. The vines were planted partly in 1959 and partly in 1965. After alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine is aged for 18 months in new Allier and Tronçais French oak barrels, before bottling and further rest in glass.

Rosso del Conte appears with a bright ruby-red color. On the nose, it offers a rich, intense, and spicy olfactory panorama, with hints of red fruits, sweet spices, licorice, and coffee, enriched by Mediterranean notes of olives and toasted dried fruit. In the mouth, the enveloping softness is balanced by good freshness and marked sapidity, creating an elegant and harmonious blend of long persistence. A classic of Sicilian winemaking, this wine is exquisite already in youth but capable of evolving in the bottle for a long time.

Tasca D’Almerita

The Tasca d’Almerita family has a centuries-old history in Sicily, guarding and passing on the land for eight generations. With respect for tradition and a look to the future, this family has grown the company through “200 years of slow-maturing history”. In addition to the Regaleali estate, owned by the Tasca d’Almerita family since 1830, four other estates have been added over the years: Capofaro in Salina, Tascante on Etna, the historic Whitaker Estate on the ancient island of Mozia, and Sallier de La Tour in Monreale. Each Estate has a distinctive personality and tells a different version of Sicily.

Today the biggest challenge for the company is to preserve these places to leave them intact for future generations, in the sign of constant attention to the safeguarding of each individual ecosystem. Tasca d’Almerita works every day to improve the environment for future generations, measuring, evaluating, and trying to predict the influence that their actions may have on the planet. The company follows the SOStain program, which offers the possibility to measure through rigorous scientific indicators their level of sustainability and to continuously improve. For Tasca d’Almerita, sustainability is not a point of arrival, but a constant improvement.
