Vigna San Francesco chardonnay – Sicily DOC

Vigna San Francesco Chardonnay by Tasca d’Almerita is one of the leading white wines from the renowned Sicilian winery. Produced in the Regaleali vineyards, located 500 meters above sea level on deep, clayey, sandy, and slightly calcareous soils, this wine best expresses the qualities of the Chardonnay grape in this unique region.

The vines were planted in 1985 by Count Lucio Tasca d’Almerita, and since then, this fine Chardonnay wine has gained great complexity and elegance thanks to the alcoholic fermentation carried out in French oak barrels, from Allier and Tronçais, of 350 liters. The refinement takes place in the same barrels, where it rests for 8 months.

Visually, the wine is golden yellow with greenish shades. On the nose, it is possible to perceive the complexity of the fragrances related to sensations of mango, papaya, passion fruit, candied citron, caramel, cinnamon, and white rose. On the palate, it is extremely fresh and linear, with an enveloping vanilla sensation and savory, almost brackish hints.

In addition to the Regaleali estate, owned by the Tasca d’Almerita family since 1830, four other estates have been added over the years: Capofaro in Salina, Tascante on Etna, the historic Whitaker Estate on the ancient island of Mozia, and Sallier de La Tour in Monreale. Each Estate has a distinctive personality and tells a different Sicily.

Today the biggest challenge for the company is to preserve these places to leave them intact for future generations, in the sign of constant attention to the safeguarding of each individual ecosystem. Tasca d’Almerita works every day to improve the environment for future generations, measuring, evaluating, and trying to predict the influence that their actions may have on the planet. The company follows the SOStain program, which offers the possibility to measure through rigorous scientific indicators their level of sustainability and to continuously improve.
