Maria Costanza white – Sicily DOP, Organic
Maria Costanza Bianco is a complex and elegant wine made from a combination of dominant Inzolia grapes, supported by selections of Chardonnay. The wine originates in the Ninotta and Milici vineyards, with strongly calcareous soils and a high clay component, which give the wine distinctive mineral notes.
Vinification takes place through soft pressing, followed by fermentation at a controlled temperature. Part of the wine matures in stainless steel (90%) and a small part in oak barrels (10%), for a period of about six months, during which the wine is constantly subjected to bâtonnage, favouring lysis of the yeasts. The wine matures further in the bottle for about two months before being put on the market.
To the eye, Maria Costanza Bianco shows a beautiful straw yellow colour with green highlights. On the nose, one immediately perceives hints of white flowers and aromatic vegetables, which combine with enveloping notes of flowers and citrus leaves. On the palate, the wine is full and structured, with a savouriness that guarantees great taste persistence.
The Milazzo winery is a family business located in Campobello di Licata, a small town between Agrigento, Caltanisetta and Licata. For five generations, this winery has been involved in viticulture, a pioneer in the valorisation of indigenous grape varieties and in Metodo Classico sparkling wine production in Sicily. Today, the winery is run by Giuseppina Milazzo and Saverio Lo Leggio, who continue the path of valorising family traditions, with an eye to organic farming and sustainability.
The Milazzo winery’s vineyards extend over approximately 97 hectares, located at an altitude of 400 metres, on morphologically diverse soils that offer a unique terroir for each variety cultivated. The Mediterranean climate, characterised by mild summers and cold winters, helps create ideal conditions for growing grapes.
Milazzo’s philosophy focuses on the organic management of the vineyards, certified since 2012, and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions at all stages of production.
