Villalba lentil – Slow Food Presidia
The Villalba lentil finds the ideal environment to grow in the Sicilian hinterland, in Villalba, within the district of Caltanissetta. It is a large-seeded legume with high protein content, ideal for vegetarian diets or to combat cholesterol.
The quality of this lentil stems from its production method: it is processed and packaged entirely by hand in the farm set on the hills of Caltanissetta by one of the very few producers of this speciality.
Located in Villalba (Sicily), the Calafato Filippo Farm produces almonds, spices, and pulses. At an altitude of 600 metres above sea level, the twelve hectares of farmland are cultivated according to organic farming methods. The company’s long tradition of production and the elegance of its packages of pulses and almonds have made it famous and recognizable beyond the regional borders.
