Melauro

Melauro is a Sicilian company born from a passion for beekeeping and hive products. Since 1996, it has transformed this passion into an artisanal production closely linked to nature and the local area. Organic honeys, bee pollen and speciality foods reflect a project that combines experience, careful ingredient selection and attention to processing methods.

Melauro was founded in Sicily through the experience of the brothers Aldo and Antonio La Ferrera, who turned a passion originally cultivated as a hobby into a professional business dedicated to beekeeping. Bees and their relationship with the local area are the starting point of the company. The hives are placed in selected areas so that the colonies can gather nectar from different blossoms, giving rise to honeys with different aromas, colours and consistencies.

Since 1998, the company has operated according to organic methods and has combined beekeeping with the processing of other raw ingredients. Organic production, craftsmanship and simplicity are central elements of the Melauro philosophy. Honey remains at the heart of the project, while the range is expanded with pollen and sweet preparations that interpret natural ingredients in different forms.

From a passion for bees to a Sicilian company

Melauro was founded in 1996 by the La Ferrera brothers, united by their passion for the world of bees. Beekeeping gradually became a true professional project. The experience gained from working with hives led to the creation of a company dedicated to the production, processing and sale of hive products.

The business developed in Gagliano Castelferrato, in inland Sicily, while maintaining a strong connection with the environment and the different blossoms that characterise the area. Nature determines the timing and characteristics of production. Each honey can therefore have a different colour, aroma, consistency and intensity depending on the blossom from which the bees collected nectar.

Organic beekeeping and processing

Melauro has been a certified organic company since 1998. The choice of organic production has accompanied the company for most of its history. Attention is paid both to hive management and to the subsequent stages of processing, with the aim of respecting as much as possible the natural characteristics of the products.

Extraction, filtration and packaging of the honey are carried out while controlling temperatures during the process. The processing aims to preserve the honey’s aromas, texture and original characteristics. It is an approach that places at its centre a simple yet highly variable raw ingredient, directly expressing the work of the bees and the blossoms available to them.

The Melauro products selected for you

The selection includes thistle honey, honey with comb, balsamic honey and bee pollen, alongside chickpea and cocoa spread. Different products allow you to discover several aspects of Melauro production. Thistle honey has a floral and distinctive aromatic profile, while honey with comb allows honey to be enjoyed together with its natural wax structure, offering a completely different texture from traditionally jarred honey.

Bee pollen is another product directly linked to hive activity, while balsamic honey offers an aromatic interpretation of honey. Chickpea and cocoa spread broadens the selection beyond the strictly beekeeping world. It is a spreadable preparation using chickpeas together with cocoa and reflects the company’s ability to experiment with different ingredients as well.

Honey, comb and pollen

Honey is a food that naturally changes according to its botanical origin. Each blossom can give rise to different sensory characteristics. Colour, aroma, intensity and the tendency to crystallise are all part of the identity of the different honeys and make it possible to choose a product according to personal taste.

Honey with comb offers a different experience still, because it is presented together with the structure naturally created by the bees. Honey and comb can be enjoyed together. Pollen, on the other hand, comes in small granules and can be used in small quantities at breakfast or in other preparations, accompanying honey within the same selection.

How to enjoy Melauro specialities

Honey can be used at many moments throughout the day, from breakfast to gastronomic pairings. Bread, yoghurt and sweet preparations are among its most immediate uses. It can also accompany certain cheeses, be used as a sweetener or become part of desserts, doughs and dressings.

Chickpea and cocoa spread is especially suited to being enjoyed as a spread, while honey with comb can be served directly in small pieces. Each product offers different textures and ways of being enjoyed. The variety of the selection makes it possible to alternate the smoothness of honey, the structure of comb, the granules of pollen and the creaminess of spreadable preparations.

A production closely linked to nature

Beekeeping requires a constant relationship with the seasons, blossoms and environmental conditions. The work of bees follows rhythms that cannot be separated from nature. It is precisely this relationship that shapes an important part of the Melauro identity and makes each production closely connected to the environment in which the hives are placed.

From the founders’ initial passion to organic certification and the development of new specialities, Melauro has built a production in which honey remains the central point of reference. Beekeeping, territory and research define the company’s path. It is a Sicilian business that continues to enhance hive products while accompanying them with new interpretations of taste.
